Latin Quarter nightclub, New York City, 2001
The 1972 film “Last Tango in Paris” was extremely controversial due to its frank depiction of sexuality, violence and grieving. It received international controversy, and the MPAA gave it an X rating.
Director Bernardo Bertolucci would use tenor saxophonist Gato Barbieri's signature gritty sound to provide the proper tone for his film. This is the film's theme.
And for composing the film's score, Barbieri would receive a Grammy Award, further igniting his career.
Personnel:
Gato Barbieri, tenor sax
Robbie Gonzalez, drums
Mario Rodriguez, bass
Mark Soskin, piano
Frank Colon, percussion
