Prague, Czechoslovakia, 1976
Composed in 1931 by Duke Ellington, “It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)” has since become a jazz standard. Cutting edge, it predates the swing era and may be the first song to use swing in its title.
Alex Welsh, a Scotsman, was not only a band leader and a talented trumpet player but was noted for his showmanship and sense of humor.
Personnel:
Alex Welsh, trumpet
Roy Williams, trombone
Johnny Barnes, reeds
Brian Lemon, piano
Paul Skivington, bass
Roger Nobes, drums
