Written in 1952 by George Shearing, above, “Lullaby of Birdland” was a reference to the Birdland jazz club – so named after Charlie “Bird” Parker. It's been covered by Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse and Sarah Vaughan.
A Brit, before becoming a U.S. citizen as well, in 2007 Shearing would be knighted.
This performance is from 1987.
