Chromatic mastery
Written and recorded by Sonny Rollins for his 1956 album of the same name, “Tenor Madness” was a track featuring Rollins' own hard bop stylings.
Here Belgian harmonica player Toots Thielemans kicks up the tempo a bit on the track, showing off the kind of skills that in 2009 led to him being named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master.
Personnel:
Toots Thielemans, harmonica
Michel Herr, piano
Theo de Jong, bass
Felix Simtaine, drums
