Review:

This is the one hundred ninety-seventh in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Support live music – even when it’s streamed!

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Tamuz Nissim studied classical piano from the age of six and became a jazz singer at 14.

A professional at 16, after working regularly in Israel, she moved to the Netherlands in 2007 to further study music and perform locally. In more recent times, she has been part of the New York jazz scene, recording several well-received albums.

On her LiveStream of Jan. 21, 2021, Tamusz Nissim is joined by guitarist George Nazos (who is originally from Greece) for an accessible yet adventurous set of duets that starts off with “Young At Heart” and then features a stimulating set of originals plus “On The Sunny Side Of The Street.”

Nissim’s attractive voice, expert scat-singing and desire to stretch herself are a winning combination while Nazos’ guitar playing functions less as an accompanist than as an inspiring second voice who consistently challenges the singer.
