Baby Please Don’t Go

Big Joe Williams

American Folk Blues Festival

Nine-string guitarist Big Joe Williams performs his famous blues “Baby Please Don’t Go” during the 1966 American Folk Blues Festival tour.

A larger than life personality Joe Williams was an important figure in the blues communities of both the Mississippi delta and Chicago. He was a true delta blues master whose style was pronouncedly different from that of other artists. As an innovator he created a nine-string guitar and became one of the very first blues artists to amplify his instrument.
