Corrina

Sam Chatmon

Jan. 10, 1897 – Feb. 2, 1

Filmed by Alan Lomax during August 1978 Sam Chatmon (guitar & vocals) performs his original folk-blues “Corrina” at his home in Hollandale, Mississippi.

A member of the renown Mississippi Chatmon clan, Sam Chatmon performed with his bothers fiddler Lonnie and guitarist Bo Chatman (Carter), who along with Walter Vinson formed the famous string band the “Mississippi Sheiks.”

The song was first recorded as “Corrine, Corrina” by Sam’s brother Bo in 1928, who had it copyrighted with his publishers Mitchell Parish and J. Mayo Williams in 1932.
