Dust My Broom

Elmore James

A blues star is born

Electric slide guitar icon Elmore James (vocal & guitar) is featured on his debut recording “Dust My Broom” produced August 5, 1951 in Jackson, Mississippi backed by Sonny Boy Williamson II (harmonica), Leonard Ware (bass), and Frock O’Dell (drums).

Elmore James adopted Robert Johnson’s “Dust My Broom” as his trademark song. The James version would ultimately become so popular that it caused doubt as to who was actually the originator. Elmore’s version of the song became a surprise hit of 1952 making him a star overnight.
