I May Be Wrong
Little Johnny Jones and the Chicago Hound Dogs
Elmore & Little Johnny
This recording was made during October 1953 featuring Johnny Jones (piano & vocals), J. T. Brown (tenor sax), Elmore James (guitar), Ransom Knowling (string bass), and Odie Payne (drums).
Arriving in Chicago from Jackson Mississippi in 1945 pianist Little Johnny Jones replaced Big Maceo Merriweather in Tampa Red’s band. He first appeared on record for a 1950 release as an artist featured with the Muddy Waters band. During the earlier half of the 1950’s he worked and recorded with Chicago electric slide guitarist Elmore James. Of Jones who was a heavy drinker, Elmore’s cousin Homesick James would recall “Elmore and Johnnie used to just have a fight every night.”
