Look Over Yonder Wall

Freddie King

The Texas Cannonball

Freddie King gives a truly amazing performance of the Elmore James’ song “Look Over Yonder Wall” for a television studio audience in Suiza in 1973.

Freddie King hired Jack Calmes as his manager in 1969, who immediately secured him an appearance at the 1969 Texas Pop Festival alongside Led Zeppelin and other popular bands. As a result King was signed to rock pianist Leon Russell’s new label Shelter Records. The company treated King as an important artist, flying him to Chicago to the former Chess studios for the recording of “Getting Ready” and gave him a backing line-up of top session musicians including Leon Russell himself. These sessions produced three albums worth of material.
