James Cotton and his band perform a harmonica classic during the 1980s.
Among Cotton’s most celebrated themes was his blues harp show piece, “Midnight Creeper.” The talent displayed in this segment affirms Muddy Water’s decision to hire Cotton as a replacement for Little Walter during the mid-1950s. Though numerous musicians cycled through Muddy’s band, with a sound like this he wasn’t about to lose Cotton any time soon. The harp virtuoso remained with the “Muddy Waters Band” for more than a decade.
