Ishmon Bracey
Jan. 9, 1901 – Feb. 12, 1970
This recording was made in Memphis Tennessee in February 1928 featuring Ishman Bracey (guitar & vocal), and Charlie McCoy (guitar).
Ishman Bracey started playing guitar at local dances around Byram, Mississippi in 1917. He traveled to Memphis in 1928 where he made his first records for Victor in February with Charlie McCoy on second guitar. He was among Tommy Johnson’s closest known associates and the pair performed together in medicine shows through the 1930s.
His name was frequently misspelled as ‘Ishman’ on nearly all of his record releases.
