‘Texas Nightingale’ Sippie Wallace whose real name was Beulah Thomas recorded over forty sides for Okeh between 1923 and 1927. She followed her brothers George and Hersal to Chicago, both of whom were pianists, and started making records within the year. Her brother Hersal died of food poising in 1926 followed by her husband Matt and other brother George ten years later. Before coming out of retirement in 1966 Sippie had been the organist at Detroit’s Leland Baptist Church for nearly forty years.
