Texas Flood
Larry Davis
Birth of a blues classic
Electric Texas blues singer Larry Davis (bass & vocals), accompanied by Fenton Robinson (guitar), James Booker (piano), David Dean (tenor saxophone), and an unknown drummer, is featured performing “Texas Flood” on his original 1958 single. The song was later made famous by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
During the 1950s Larry Davis landed a recording contract with the Duke label at the recommendation of Bobby Bland. He was the bassist in Albert King’s group for a period at which time he taught himself to play six-string guitar. A motorcycle accident in 1972 left him partially paralyzed but fortunately he was able to return to music by the early ’80s.
