Born and raised in Israel, Yotam Silberstein took up the guitar early, performed at the Umbria Jazz Festival when he was 21, and moved to New York in 2005 to attend the New School.
He has since worked with James Moody, the Heath Brothers, Roy Hargrove, George Coleman, Paquito D’Rivera, John Patitucci, Monty Alexander and many others,
Equally skilled at straight ahead jazz and Brazilian music, Yotam Silberstein has an attractive tone and an accessible yet creative improvising style.
On this solo Live Stream from May 8, 2020, one of at least eight that he has performed thus far, Yotam Silberstein plays his brand of beautiful music that includes “How Long Has This Been Going On,” “Embraceable You,” and a Brazilian song, showing that in his hands the guitar is a full orchestra.

There have been relatively few jazz harp players throughout history; one can think of Caspar Reardon, Adele Girard, Dorothy Ashby, Corky Hale, Alice Coltrane, Lori Andrews, Deborah Henson Conant, Zeena Parkins and just a handful of others.
Brandee Younger is arguably the top jazz harp player on the scene today, playing music that is spiritual, occasionally funky, and swinging in its own fashion.
The inventive harpist performs duets with bassist Dezron Douglas on this Live Stream from May 1, 2020, displaying the beauty of her instrument along with consistently creative ideas.
Their version of “Body And Soul” is one of the highlights of the delightful duets.

One of the great bassists of the past 40 years, John Patitucci came to fame with Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and Akoustic Band in the mid-1980s.
Since then he has led his own groups, been a regular poll winner, and consistently displayed brilliance on both acoustic and electric basses.
On April 6, 2020 he performed this intriguing solo bass recital which displays both his creativity and virtuosity, adding his wife Sachi on cello for one duet.

This is the twenty fourth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

While the recorder is often thought of as a kid’s toy or, in some cases, as a device to play classical or folk melodies, Tali Rubinstein has shown that her instrument has a great deal of potential.
She studied classical music, competed at competitions, and was the first recorder player to ever study at Berklee.
She has since made several recordings, performed internationally, and appeared at quite a few major festivals.
On this solo performance from April 14, 2020, Tali Robinson plays a variety of originals (sometimes humming through her recorder to get a droning effect) and is joined by a percussionist for the second half.
Throughout the show, Tali Robinson displays impressive technique on her recorder with the fluency of a flutist or piccolo player.

Vibraphonist Christos Rafalides was born in Kozani, Greece where he studied piano and classical percussion, working with top orchestras.
After hearing pianist George Cables play, Rafalides switched to jazz and the vibraphone, moving to Boston to study at Berklee and in New York at the Manhattan School of Music where he learned from Joe Locke.
Since 2002, Christos Rafalides has recorded regularly and worked with top musicians including Ravi Coltrane, Antonio Sanchez, Donny McCaslin, the Charles Mingus Epitaph Band, and some of Greece’s most creative artists.
On this LiveStream from April 6, 2020, Christos Rafalides improvises a few numbers on his solo vibraphone while Irini Rafalides (whose speaking microphone is unfortunately a bit low) draws images that complement his playing.
