A major trumpeter for the past 20 years, Jeremy Pelt has a warm tone (out of the Clifford Brown/Freddie Hubbard tradition) and can play quite powerfully, driving ensembles with his exciting solos.
For this LiveStream from July 18, 2020, Pelt is featured on his unaccompanied trumpet, interpreting a variety of mostly little-known ballads; he also tells the story behind his discovery of each of the songs.
Pelt’s beautiful tone and ability to caress melodies are very much in evidence on “I’ll Never Stop Loving You” (originally introduced by Doris Day), “While You Are Gone,” “Always On My Mind” and a particularly warm rendition of “Little Girl Blue.”
This is the hundred and fourteenth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.
