Alexa Barchini graduated from Temple University in 2013 with a degree in Jazz Vocal Performance.

Normally she performs in Brooklyn as half of a duo with guitarist Jackson Fitzgerald, interpreting jazz standards, originals, and Brazilian songs.

Here she is on her LiveStream from July 7, 2020, singing mostly originals while accompanying herself on piano (on two songs she switches to guitar), singing a ballad, a bluesy number and some original folk music that ranges from light-hearted to more somber; her voice is often quite lovely, particularly on the second guitar piece.

One of Los Angeles’ finest jazz singers, Sara Gazarek was born in Seattle and moved to L.A. in 2000.

She recorded her first album, Yours, in 2005, and has since followed it up with four other CDs including the most recent Thirsty Ghost which finds her moving away from swinging jazz into darker emotions and more adventurous improvising.

For her LiveStream of July 6, 2020, Sara Gazarek, who is joined by pianist Daniel Rotem, starts off with a happy “No Moon At All” which has her digging into the lyrics before scatting inventively in her own voice.

She also performs “Blackbird,” the Brazilian “O Pato,” a charming version of “Tea For Two” in 7/4 time, “On The Sunny Side Of The Street,” and some equally effective lesser-known material, giving each song a heartfelt interpretation full of creative moments and honest feelings.

Elsa Nillson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, started playing piano at five and switched to flute when she was 14.

After attending college in Seattle, she moved to Brooklyn in 2010 and has since performed in a variety of settings including with Brad Shepik, Kenny Werner, Jim Knapp and Jovino Santos Neto.

On her July 5, 2020 LiveStream, Elsa Nillson and electric bassist Cody Rahn perform the “Crater Lake Suite,” an eight movement work based on her improvisations that were made earlier in Crater Lake, Oregon.

The thoughtful and often introspective music is attenuated by shots of Crater Lake in addition to giving viewers a chance to see the duo perform.

The Dutch duo of singer Ineke Vandoorn and guitarist Marc Van Vugt have worked together numerous times in many types of settings including in a quartet, a larger ensemble and, as featured on this

LiveStream from July 4, 2020, a duo.

Ineke Vandoorn is an adventurous but friendly and accessible singer who has worked with Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Thomas Chapin, Robin Eubanks, and Vince Mendoza among many others.

Marc van Vugt is a well-respected composer in addition to being a guitarist who, in addition to also working with Wheeler, Chapin, Eubanks and Mendoza, has performed with John Clayton and John Abercrombie.

During their atmospheric set, Vandoorn and van Vugt (who sings behind Vandoorn on one song) perform melodic and often very attractive originals, functioning both as one purposeful voice and as a full orchestra by themselves.

During the last part of their intimate performance, keyboardist Derk Reneman makes the group a trio, fitting in well while pushing the others to really stretch themselves.
