One of the top jazz organists of the past 15 years, Akiko Tsuruga was born in Osaka, Japan, started playing organ when she was three, and moved to New York City in 2001 where she had lessons from Dr. Lonnie Smith.
An excellent straight ahead jazz player, Ms. Tsuruga worked for years with Lou Donaldson and has led at least 11 records of her own since 2004, often using guitarist Graham Dechter and drummer Jeff Hamilton.
On her LiveStream from Oct. 22, 2020, Akiko Tsuruga plays mostly lesser-known swinging standards, ballads and a blues in a trio with trumpeter-flugelhornist Joe Magnarelli and Dred Scott on congas.

Trombonist Kalia Vandever, originally from Los Angeles, moved to New York in 2013 to study at Juilliard, earning a degree in Jazz Studies.
She has since played with Ingrid Jensen, Herbie Hancock, Tyshawn Sorey, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Fabian Almazan, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Joel Ross, and others, recording her debut album In Bloom in 2019.
Kalia Vandever performs solo trombone during her April 19, 2020 LiveStream, utilizing an echo effect that allows her to sound like a few trombonists at once while stating her original melodies (along with “I’ll Be Seeing You”) and improvising with a warm tone.
