The daughter of guitarist Steve Masakowski, Sasha Masakowski is an inventive and versatile jazz singer with an attractive voice from New Orleans who is clearly not shy to take chances.
She has performed trad jazz, fusion and rock as a singer and keyboardist, appearing at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival five years and working with a variety of New Orleans musicians including Irvin Mayfield.
On her LiveStream from June 12, 2020, performed on the roof of the Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans, she utilizes the stage name of Tra$h Magnolia and accompanies herself on electronics.
Sasha Masakowski sings over the rhythmic patterns that she sets, sometimes she creates a choir through overdubbing, she has her own call and response, and comes up with infectious and intriguing music that is quite atmospheric.

Review:
This is the sixty third in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

A virtuoso bassist who is always creative, Avishai Cohen was born in Israel, started on the piano at nine, and switched to bass at 14.
Cohen gained his initial fame in the jazz world during a stint with Chick Corea; he has also played with Claudia Acuna, Danilo Perez, Kurt Rosenwinkel , Seamus Blake and Amos Hofman, but most often has been heading his own groups, leading at least 17 albums since1998.
For this LiveStream from June 21, 2020, Cohen performs in his home studio in Israel with pianist Omri Mor and drummer Noam David.
The music, all originals other than Oscar Pettiford’s Tricotism,” features close interplay between the musicians who play in a musical democracy with Cohen the first among equals.
Their quick reactions to each other make their post bop explorations enjoyable to watch.

Review:
This is the one hundred and eighty sixth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Nikki Yanofsky, who turns 27 in 2021, has been well-known in Canada ever since singing at the 2006 Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2006 when she was only 12.
At 14 she toured with Marvin Hamlisch including playing at Carnegie Hall and she has since performed regularly, sometimes been a guest singer with symphony orchestras, and led three albums of her own.
While her early work often found her sounding close to Ella Fitzgerald (her debut album was called Ella…Of Thee I Swing), Yanofsky has since developed her own soulful style while still retaining her love for American standards.
On her LiveStream of June 17, 2020, Nikki Yanofsky sings over rhythm tracks and her occasional keyboard, performing “I’ve Got A Crush On You,” “Crazy, He Calls Me,” a soulful blues, a scat-filled “Cloudburst,” “How High The Moon” a la Ella, and some r&b songs, all of it with an attractive voice and infectious enthusiasm.
