This is the eighty fourth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Joe Alterman is a young 30ish jazz pianist who has been making a big impression in recent times.
Born in Atlanta, he earned degrees from New York University and has been part of the New York jazz scene for the past decade.
A well-rounded pianist who has mostly led his own trios in the New York area (in addition to performing with Houston Person and Les McCann), Alterman is in fine form throughout his May 17, 2020 LiveStream.
He performs several originals which are rhythmically catchy (one can understand why Ramsey Lewis and Monty Alexander are among his fans), does a fine job with a stride version of “Memories Of You” (which he dedicates to Nat Hentoff) and a swinging “Mean To Me,” tells some colorful stories between his piano solos, and concludes the performance by taking a surprise vocal on “If I Had You” and swinging his way through “You Are My Sunshine.”
It makes for an enjoyable hour of often rollicking jazz piano music.

This is the forty eighth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Zaccai Curtis is a versatile pianist who studied at Jackie McLean’s Artists Collective School, founded the label Truth Revolution and, with his sibling Luques Curtis, formed the Curtis Brothers Band.
The pianists has led at least five CDs of his own.
On his solo recital room May 16, 2020, he starts off by playing a bluesy version of “Down By The Riverside” that is a bit reminiscent of Oscar Peterson, and then performs several harmonically sophisticated, modal and rhythmic originals, including one that concludes with a quote from “Moanin.’”.
The well-rounded set finishes with an uptempo piece in Bud Powell’s style that displays Zaccai Curtis’ impressive technique and creative abilities..

Pianist Joey Alexander has been considered a prodigy ever since he made his recording debut when he was 11.
Born in Indonesia, he taught himself to play jazz when he was six and was playing professionally within three years.
Alexander played with Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2014 when he was ten and has continued to grow and mature through his teenage years, recording six albums.
Here he is on May 16, 2020 at the age of 16 performing five numbers (two standards and three adventurous yet thoughtful originals) in a solo set that combines together his youthful enthusiasm, sophisticated voicings, swinging improvising, and a surprising maturity.
One quickly forgets his age and simply enjoys the brilliant playing of Joey Alexander.

This is the one hundred fifty in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

Saskia Laroo, who is from the Netherlands and began playing when she was eight, has had a very versatile career that has found her playing several styles of jazz (from traditional classic jazz to fusion), pop and Latin music.
Pianist Warren Byrd, who is from Hartford, Connecticut, first sang with a gospel choir, has worked with Archie Shepp and Eddie Henderson, and performed with Saskia Laroo in several groups.
The Duo LarooByrd puts on an entertaining show during their Second LiveStream of Oct. 30, 2020.
On their opening number, a dixielandish blues, Laroo sings, plays trumpet, switches to string bass, takes a brief alto solo, and trades scatting with the pianist (who doubles on congas).
The duo holds one’s interest throughout with their colorful and diverse set which is consistently full of surprises and includes a fine Byrd vocal on “Darn That Dream” and a spirited “Work Song,”

Kate Baker, the widow of the late great guitarist Vic Juris, has a warm vocal style, swings gently, and does justice to lyrics while being a subtle improviser, sometimes sounding a little like Irene Kral.
Guitarist Dave Stryker, who has led more than 30 albums, has been a major jazz soloist since 1980, working with Jack McDuff, Stanley Turrentine, a group that he co-led with saxophonist Steve Slagle, Kevin Mahogany and with his own bands.
The team of Baker and Stryker creates beautiful music during this LiveStream from May 16, 2020 including performing such numbers as “I Thought About You,” an Alec Wilder song, a cooking rendition of “Secret Love,” and “My One And Only Love,”
