Review:

This is the hundred and thirteenth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

The daughter of the great jazz singer Stephanie Nakasian and the late bop pianist Hod O’Brien, Veronica Swift has developed into one of the top jazz vocalists on the scene today.

She recorded her first album when she was nine, toured as a young teenager, won second place in the 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition and in the past few years has performed with Chris Botti, Wynton Marsalis, Benny Green, and Emmet Cohen among others, in addition to touring with her own group.

Inspired by Anita O’Day, Veronica Swift has developed into a top swing and bop singer who has her own sound within the tradition.

On her LiveStream from Sept. 3, 2020, she performs duets with the fine pianist Matt Baker including swinging versions of “I Just Found Out About Love,” “A Fine Romance,” “Interlude,” and “Lulu’s Back In Town,” and is joined by Stephanie Nakasian for “Estate” and an exciting scat-filled romp.
