Always an inventive jazz singer and composer, Carmen Lundy was born in Florida and graduated from the University of Miami.
She moved to New York in 1978, gained plenty of musical experience, and in 1985 made her recording debut as a leader
Since then, Carmen Lundy has led 15 albums, written over 120 songs (many of which have been covered by other jazz artists), conducted a countless number of master classes and clinics, and worked as an actress including in Sophisticated Ladies and as Billie Holiday in the play They Were All Gardenias; she is also a skilled painter and a fine pianist.
On her LiveStream from May 29, 2020, Carmen Lundy mostly sings her often-dramatic originals, accompanying herself on piano and putting on an impressive performance.

This is the thirty sixth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.

One of the world’s greatest trumpeters, a dazzling technician with his own sound, a very wide range and an exciting soloist, Arturo Sandoval is also a very impressive pianist.
For this Live Stream, Sandoval mostly plays piano although on a few pieces he accompanies his trumpet playing with some piano runs by his left-hand.
Highlights of the melodic set includes a melancholy ballad, a medium-tempo “Girl From Ipanema,” a Dizzy Gillespie medley of “A Night In Tunisia” and “Con Alma,” “All The Things You Are,” and “Body And Soul.”

Rob Clearfield is a Chicago-based pianist and guitarist who studied at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
He has worked along the way with Patricia Barber, Howard Levy, Marquis Hill and other fine local musicians, leading eight albums of his original music and co-leading the group Persona with saxophonist Caroline Davis.
On his LiveStream from May 29, 2020, Rob Clearfield plays a relaxed solo set on his electric keyboard including an impressionistic and moody original to open the performance, “Georgia On My Mind,” and other pieces including a somber jazz waltz that is influenced by classical music; he has no difficulty holding one’s interest during his often-introspective program.

Paul Carr was born in Houston, graduated from Howard University, and developed into a powerful tenor-saxophonist who, while inspired by Arnett Cobb and Don Wilkerson, has long had his own sound.
Carr has led several fine CDs and has also been a busy educator, founding the Jazz Academy Of Music.
On this LiveStream from May 29, 2020, Paul Carr performs with an excellent young rhythm section, really digging into a passionate version of “Invitation,” a relatively tender “Our Love Is Here To Stay,” the adventurous “After The Morning,” and a couple of originals.
Paul Carr certainly deserves to be much better known.
