Altoist Jaleel Shaw was born and raised in Philadelphia, earning a degree from Berklee and a Master’s from the Manhattan School of Music.

He has since worked with the World Saxophone Quartet (2006), the Roy Haynes Quartet and the Mingus Big Band, recorded with Tom Harrell and Nate Smith, and led three albums of his own.

Playing unaccompanied saxophone might be a little difficult for many but Jaleel Shaw sounds beautiful with his tone, even at the beginning of this performance from May 23, 2020 when he is briefly warming up,

After performing Thelonious Monk’s “Bemsha Swing,” Shaw builds up a few improvisations, often utilizing a repeated figure that he uses as a foundation for the musical thoughts that follow.

The result is a set of spontaneous, intriguing and surprisingly accessible music that is both boppish and unpredictable.

Pianist Simona Premazzi is originally from Italy where she began playing piano when she was eight.

She studied at the conservatory of music in Udine and in Milano and at the International Academy of Music.

Ms. Premazzi played for four years with Enrico Intra’s big band, moved to New York in 2004, and has since worked extensively with Greg Osby and Jeremy Pelt and also with such modern jazz notables as Dayna Stephens, Melissa Aldana, Mark Shim, Ralph Alessi, Seamus Blake and many others; she has also led five albums of her own so far.

On her LiveStream of May 23, 2020, Simona Premazzi creates an extensive unaccompanied piano solo that has some free flights along with melodic stretches.

Her classical technique is as impressive as the logic of her improvisations as she explores a variety of moods, inspired by paintings, photographs and her own vivid imagination, creating an improvised suite.

Zeshan Bagewadi, who is known as Zeshan B, is a soulful singer who also plays several instruments.

Born in Chicago and now based in New York, he sang in choirs while in high school, was trained to sing opera, studied at Northwestern University, and was hired by opera companies.

However Zeshan B switched gears, deciding that he wanted to perform World music which he considered much more relevant to his life.

He released his debut album Vetted in 2017 (having a hit with “Crying In the Streets”) and following it up with the recent Melismatic. During this entertaining LiveStream from May 22, 2020, Zeshan B performs songs from his albums while accompanying his strong voice on harmonium and a South Asian string instrument.
