Pianist Joey Alexander has been considered a prodigy ever since he made his recording debut when he was 11.

Born in Indonesia, he taught himself to play jazz when he was six and was playing professionally within three years.

Alexander played with Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2014 when he was ten and has continued to grow and mature through his teenage years, recording six albums.

Here he is on May 16, 2020 at the age of 16 performing five numbers (two standards and three adventurous yet thoughtful originals) in a solo set that combines together his youthful enthusiasm, sophisticated voicings, swinging improvising, and a surprising maturity.

One quickly forgets his age and simply enjoys the brilliant playing of Joey Alexander.

Saskia Laroo, who is from the Netherlands and began playing when she was eight, has had a very versatile career that has found her playing several styles of jazz (from traditional classic jazz to fusion), pop and Latin music.

Pianist Warren Byrd, who is from Hartford, Connecticut, first sang with a gospel choir, has worked with Archie Shepp and Eddie Henderson, and performed with Saskia Laroo in several groups.

The Duo LarooByrd puts on an entertaining show during their Second LiveStream of Oct. 30, 2020.

On their opening number, a dixielandish blues, Laroo sings, plays trumpet, switches to string bass, takes a brief alto solo, and trades scatting with the pianist (who doubles on congas).

The duo holds one’s interest throughout with their colorful and diverse set which is consistently full of surprises and includes a fine Byrd vocal on “Darn That Dream” and a spirited “Work Song,”

Kate Baker, the widow of the late great guitarist Vic Juris, has a warm vocal style, swings gently, and does justice to lyrics while being a subtle improviser, sometimes sounding a little like Irene Kral.

Guitarist Dave Stryker, who has led more than 30 albums, has been a major jazz soloist since 1980, working with Jack McDuff, Stanley Turrentine, a group that he co-led with saxophonist Steve Slagle, Kevin Mahogany and with his own bands.

The team of Baker and Stryker creates beautiful music during this LiveStream from May 16, 2020 including performing such numbers as “I Thought About You,” an Alec Wilder song, a cooking rendition of “Secret Love,” and “My One And Only Love,”

Pianist Harold López-Nussa was born in Havana, Cuba; his father was a drummer-percussionist, his mother a piano teacher and his uncle a pianist.

López-Nussa started playing piano when he was eight, became a professional pianist after college, worked with the Cuban National Symphony in 2003 and in 2005 won a piano contest at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

He has since led nine albums of his own and developed into a very original and energetic jazz pianist.

On his LiveStream from June 27, 2020, the pianist plays duets with his brother drummer-percussionist Ruy Adrián López-Nussa which are mostly high-powered originals filled with rich themes and creativity.

ELEW, was born Eric Lewis, and had carved out an impressive career as a modern jazz pianist, working with such greats as Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones, Jon Hendricks and Roy Hargrove.

Feeling that he was not fully expressing himself playing in what was already a well-established style, he reinvented himself as ELEW, a pianist with a more open style and a repertoire that included rock tunes.

ELEW, who does not sit on a piano bench when he plays, has had success in his newer musical identity without losing his ability to create fresh improvisations.

On this LiveStream from May 13, 2020, he plays a wide- ranging set of music that includes Freddie Hubbard’s “Red Clay,” his original “Inspiring,” a bit of stride piano, using rhythmic ideas from inside the piano as the basis for one piece, a John Coltrane song, “Georgia On My Mind,” and other adventurous explorations.
