This is the eighty sixth in a series of special Jazz on the Tube reviews of live stream performances.
Support live music – even when it’s streamed!
Jonathan Thomas is a promising young jazz pianist who was born and raised in Cleveland.
Thomas’ roots are in gospel music, he discovered jazz early, and his inspirations include Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Kenny Kirkland and Robert Glasper.
Thomas attended the New School and has performed with the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, Charles Tolliver, Milton Suggs, and his own group.
With his trio on his LiveStream from July 16, 2020, Jonathan Thomas performs a variety of tunes including a swinging rendition of “You’re My Everything” (he is particularly inventive over the closing vamp), “The Good Life,” an original spiritual ballad, a boppish “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” and “The Touch Of Your Lips.”
The pianist clearly has a great future ahead of him.
