In the 1950s, guitarist Les Paul and singer Mary Ford recorded a long string of hit recordings that were quite unusual.
Paul was a pioneer in multi-track recordings and, through his mastery of electronics, he was able to record and overdub up to 12 guitars and 12 voices (Mary Ford’s), creating a unique sound for their recordings.
On this fascinating episode of the mid-1950s television program Omnibus, host Alistair Cooke does a fine job of interviewing the pair.
Les Paul demonstrates his innovative recording technique and how he could record sound over sound in an informative and humorous manner; the program concludes with Paul & Ford performing “How High The Moon.”
