This film sequence has two of the best Soundies filmed of the Count Basie Orchestra of 1941.
“Take Me Back Baby” has Jimmy Rushing pretending to play saxophone, falling asleep, and dreaming that he is singing the blues to an attractive female.
On “Air Mail Special,” Rushing humorously shows how to win a dance contest.
During the latter, the Basie Big Band with trumpeter Harry “Sweets” Edison and Don Byas on tenor rages through a heated instrumental.
This is classic swing that will be enjoyed by big band fans.
