Pennsylvania native Jaco Pastorius developed a reputation for his pioneering, unconventional base lines. He moved jazz forward by combining Latin influences (particularly Cachao López’s), Afro-Cuban and R&B influences to create an entirely new sound. He would use percussional, or “ghost,” notes, by anchoring his on the bass pickup at the bridge.

Pastorius would collaborate with the likes of Joni Mitchell and worked with Weather Report.
