Makoto Ozone first became well-known in the United States for his playing with Gary Burton, but he has had a long and productive career working in his native Japan and Europe.
At a New Year’s Eve concert on Dec. 31, 2021 with the NDR Orchestra, Ozone performed a solo piano version of “Spain” in tribute to its composer Chick Corea.
While paying respect to both Corea and his classic piece, Ozone also puts a bit of his own musical personality into this heartfelt rendition.
