Oscar Peterson, in his thousands of performances, rarely failed to be rather amazing in his playing.

From 1963 with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen (both of whom have their spots), Peterson starts out “Chicago” in a relaxed and melodic fashion.

His arrangement includes some surprising interludes and a rather heated section that Peterson handles effortlessly, showing off his dazzling technique while never losing sight of the song’s melody.
