Benny Green has long been a major hard bop-oriented pianist, inspired by Oscar Peterson, Bobby Timmons, Wynton Kelly and the top jazz pianists of the 1950s and ‘60s.
His experiences working with Betty Carter and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers prepared him for a major career as the leader of his own trios.
On his version of “Taking A Chance On Love” from the early 1990s, Green swings the tune while utilizing his own chord voicings in a trio with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Billy Drummond.
