Arguably the greatest jazz singer of all-time, Ella Fitzgerald, during a nearly half-century of performances and recordings, had a beautiful voice, perfect articulation, a wide range, a sweet personality, and the ability to outswing anyone.
This five-minute medley from a Canadian show in the early 1960s does a superior job of summing up many of Ella’s talents.
She is featured on her hit novelty “A-Tisket, A-Tasket,” a ballad (“Imagination”) with strings, and scatting a couple of hot choruses on “Lady Be Good.”
The artistry and joy of Ella Fitzgerald, whose centennial was in 2017, always deserves to be celebrated.
