Enrico Rava-Tomasz Stanko Quintet

Two European trumpet greats team up

Enrico Rava (1939- ) from Italy and Tomasz Stanko (1942-2018) from Poland were both masterful trumpeters/flugelhornists who had long careers playing moody, mostly mellow, and generally thoughtful jazz in Europe.

While they were both part of Cecil Taylor projects in 1984 and 1988, otherwise they never recorded together and only occasionally crossed paths through the years.

Joining forces on a thought-provoking original, Rava (who solos first) and Stanko are joined by pianist Giovanni Guidi (who also has an excellent solo), bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Gerald Cleaver at a European jazz festival in 2017.
