Michel Camilo has long been one of jazz’s most brilliant pianists while the WDR Big Band is one of its top orchestras.

Teaming Camilo with the WDR Orchestra was a logical combination as can be heard during a high-powered rendition of the pianist’s “And Sammy Walked In.”

Camilo is prominent throughout, the big band is enthusiastic and rollicking, and the other soloists include tenor-saxophonist Paul Heller and trumpeter Rob Bruynen.

The arrangement is by Michael Mossman and the rhythm section (bassist Lincoln Goines, drummer Cliff Almond, and percussionist Eliel Lazo) are guests who are strong assets to this rendition.

This was performed at a dress rehearsal to an upcoming concert and is full of exciting moments.
