Catherine Russell, the daughter of 1920s/’30s jazz pianist-bandleader Luis Russell, had a busy career as a top background singer for pop acts, not becoming a solo jazz singer until she was nearly 50, making her first album as a leader in 2006.

By the time she guested with cornetist Jim Cullum in May 2010, she was on her way to the top as a significant swing singer.

For this relaxed version of Harold Arlen’s “As Long As I Live,” Ms. Russell is joined by guest pianist Dick Hyman and the Jim Cullum Jazz Band: cornetist Cullum, clarinetist Ron Hockett, trombonist Mike Pittsley, guitarist Howard Elkins, bassist Ric Ramirez, and drummer Mike Waskiewicz.
