Cesária Évora, from Cape Verde, Africa, was orphaned from late childhood, and had her first gigs on board cruise ships riding out of Portugal. In 1995 she got her first Grammy for the 1994 album “Cesária.”
Composed in 1940 by Consuelo Velázquez, Besame Mucho – in English,”Kiss me a lot” – is the most recorded song to come out of Mexico.
