The Dukes Of Dixieland were one of the most popular trad jazz bands of the 1950s and ‘60s.
They were in their prime in the early 1960s when they recorded regularly for the Columbia label.
Trumpeter Frank Assunto was the leader and joined by his brother trombonist Freddie Assunto, his father Papa Jac Assunto also on trombone, clarinetist Kenny Davern, pianist Gene Schroeder, bassist Jack Six, and drummer Buzzy Drootin for their appearance on the Jimmy Dean television show.
The Dukes perform a concise version of “Bill Bailey” and a spirited “Farewell Blues” with spots for each of the horn players and Schroeder.
