The WDR Big Band, which was officially formed in1980 but existed under other names on and off since the late 1940s, is a major jazz orchestra based in Germany.

For their exploration of Dave Brubeck’s “Blue Rondo A La Turk,” the huge ensemble (which is conducted by Michael Seal) performs an inspired arrangement (by C Nemet) that features trumpeter Christoph Moschberger, pianist Billy Test, and drummer Hans Dekker.

It is fascinating hearing the Brubeck piece, which was played by his quartet for many years, turned into a spirited orchestra piece.
