On one of Emmet Cohen’s Live Stream broadcasts, he welcomed fellow pianists Brad Mehldau and Johnny O’Neal.

For the closing “Blues In B Flat,” they were joined by bassist Joey Ranieri (with a cameo by Philip Norris) and drummer Damien Mehldau.

O’Neal, Cohen and Mehldau take their turns having piano solos, trumpeter Philip Harper and Rainieri get their spots, the three pianists trade off spontaneously, drummer Mehldau takes a solo, and Cohen and Mehldau take the song out while O’Neal sings the blues.

It could have been a real train wreck but Cohen directs traffic well and the results are quite fun.
