Bluesette with Stevie Wonder

Toots Thielemans

The two masterful harmonica players join together on Toots’ greatest hit

Toots Thielemans (1922-2016) was the greatest chromatic harmonica player of all time, dominating his instrument in jazz for decades.

Stevie Wonder, who like Thielemans was quite multi-talented, has played his harmonica in pop and r&b music while also occasionally performing jazz.

They met together onstage only a few times including for this version of Toots’ “Bluesette,” taken from a European television show.

After Thielemans takes a hot harmonica solo, Wonder appears on stage and plays his own conception of the piece.

The two harmonica greats trade off briefly, making one wish that they had done this much more often.
