Chet Baker (1929-88) certainly had an up-and-down life and career but strangely enough, after all of his trials and tribulations, he was playing trumpet in top form during his last decade, at least on his best days.

This very relaxed version of “Bye Bye Blackbird” in a trio with pianist Michel Graillier and bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse finds Baker sitting in an easy chair and playing melodic ideas with his classic tone.

This is vintage cool jazz with the trumpeter effortlessly making every note and musical thought fit.
