Pianist Emmet Cohen’s long string of weekly LiveStream performances, called Live At Emmet’s Place, are among the most enjoyable on the internet.
For this edition from late-2021, Cohen and his trio with bassist Yasusi Nakamura and drummer Kyle Poole are joined by trumpeter Randy Brecker and tenor-saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown for a spirited version of Herbie Hancock’s “Cantaloupe Island.”
Brecker at 76 has not lost a thing through the years as he shows on his blazing solo.
Lefkowitz-Brown builds up the intensity and passion of his solo slowly, Cohen creates an inventive and soulful improvisation of his own, and a joyful party atmosphere is felt throughout the performance.
