During an era when there are several very impressive young female jazz singers, Anais Reno still stands out from the field.
Reno, who was born in 2003, has been performing with professionals since she was ten.
She made a strong impression as a jazz singer as early as 2016 and had her recording debut while still in high school.
17 at the time of this performance in 2021, she begins “Caravan” with some wordless singing that purposely hints at the Middle East before swinging the melody chorus.
The band is well featured with trumpeter Benny Benack taking two hot choruses (quoting “Flight Of The Bumble Bee” at one point) and pianist Miki Yamanaka and bassist Dylan Shamat making strong statements while drummer Kofi Shepsu is excellent in support.
