Bassist John Patitucci and drummer Dave Weckl played together for years with Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and Corea’s Akoustic Trio.
Pianist Joey Calderazzo became famous for his associations with Michael Brecker and Branford Marsalis.
The trio toured Europe in 2024 with this performance taking place in Cremona, Italy.
Patitucci composed “Chickmonk” as a dual tribute to Chick Corea and Thelonious Monk.
The music (and Calderazzo’s playing) does not really sound that close to either Corea or Monk but it does not matter the trio’s uptempo performance gives each of the players opportunities to take rewarding and stirring solos.
