During its 51 years (1972-2023), the Manhattan Transfer was one of the greatest of all jazz vocal groups.
Consisting of Tim Hauser (who passed away in 2014 and was succeeded by Trist Curless), Alan Paul, Janis Siegel, and Cheryl Bentyne (who replaced an injured Laurel Masse in 1978), the Manhattan Transfer had an eclectic repertoire that included bebop, Brazilian music, swing, and some pop, r&b and rock.
The group was at its best when performing swing and bop as they show on Freddie Green’s “Corner Pocket” (which was renamed “Until I Had You”), recreating the sound of the Count Basie Orchestra.
The supporting cast includes pianist Yaron Gershovsky, guitarist Jamie Glaser, bassist Alex Blake, drummer Tommy Campbell, percussionist Frank Colon, and saxophonist Chris Hunter.
