The Count Basie Orchestra of 1962, in all its swinging glory.

Composed in 1956 by Freddie Green, “Corner Pocket” has since become a jazz standard. Green would play regularly with Count Basie’s group for five decades. He pioneered the use of the guitar as a rhythm instrument and did not often play solos. Just listen to Freddie Green lay down those perfect 4/4 chords.

Sonny Payne is the drummer you’re asking about.
