Quite an all-star band

In 2017, an all-star group of top female jazz artists came together; the band would soon be called Artemis.

Appearing on one stage was pianist Renee Rosnes, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, clarinetist Anat Cohen, tenor-saxophonist Melissa Aldana, bassist Noriko Ueda, drummer Sylvia Cuenca, and singer Cecile McLorin Salvant; all but Ueda and Cuenca were normally bandleaders.

Since recording an album for Blue Note, Artemis has had some changes in personnel but the original version is featured on this film clip from 2017.

On “Easy To Love,” after a brief vocal, there are hot solos by Aldana, Jensen, and Rosnes before Salvant closes the piece.

For an encore, Cécile McLorin Salvant, accompanied by Rosnes (who has a solo) and the rhythm section, sings a straightforward version of “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye” that is heartwarming.
