Equinox – 2010

 Janice Borla

A rare vocal version of the John Coltrane blues

A top-notch jazz singer who has a lovely voice and an adventurous spirit, Janice Borla has been an important force in the Chicago area for many years.

In addition to her performances, she has been a significant educator since 1989 when she founded the Janice Borla Vocal Camp, working as the Director of Vocal Jazz at North Central College since 1996.

For this performance of John Coltrane’s modal blues “Equinox,” Janice Borla sings her own lyrics and leaves plenty of space for her musicians (trumpeter Art Davis, guitarist John McLean, pianist Dan Haerle, bassist Bill Bowman, and drummer Jack Mouse) to stretch out.
