Singer-guitarist Eddie Hazell recorded his first album in 1961 at age 27 and performed for five decades in clubs and concerts in the U.S. and Canada, being particularly well-known in the New York area.

Although he was considered a Jazz musician by many, Eddie didn’t have a repertoire exclusive to Jazz he just knew what he wanted to play and how to go about producing it, giving everything his own unique finesse.

Eddie was familiar to Jazz aficionados from his numerous albums and television appearances including the “Merv Griffin Show”, the “Today Show”, and “Kraft Music Hall.” Hazell, a native of New Jersey, performed with artists ranging from Bill Cosby to Jack Benny. A biography about Hazell, “Someone Out There Is Listening” by Ed Petkus, was published this year.

Eddie Hazell passed away on November 2, 2010 at the age of 76 and is survived by his wife, Anne Nielsen Hazell, his two sons Edward and Kevin Hazell, and daughter Naedine Hazell, as well as three step children and nine grandchildren.
