A fictional band featuring Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldridge perform an untitled piece in this 1961 episode of the TV series “Route 66.”
Legendary vocalist Ethel Waters guest stars as Jennie, a dying blues singer who wants to gather her original band for one last performance. The episode was groundbreaking for its predominantly black cast and its casting of actual jazz musicians as members of Jennie’s band.
